Maja Costa works as a multilingual, freelance writer and director. Her focus is on stories that explore human identity and behaviour in more and more complex, multicultural, global societies. After studying Egyptology / Ancient Oriental Studies (M.A.) and music in Italy, she studied screenwriting at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (DFFB) and, as a scholarship holder of SKY Italia, is an alumna of the TV training program Serial Eyes. She has worked with several film production companies on various projects, including Palomar (Rome), TV60 (Munich), Anorak Film (Berlin).

Since 2014, Maja Costa offers dramaturgical advice for feature films, documentaries and TV series. She has attended numerous training programs with internationally acclaimed script consultants, such as Martin Daniel, Mary Kate O’Callaghan (MIDPOINT Prague) and Linda Aronson (Australia / UK). In 2017 she received a scholarship from the Mediengründerzentrum NRW and founded the production company “Aetnafilm”. In 2018, the Coming-of-Age series “5 to 12”, in which Maja Costa worked as a staff writer in the Writers’ Room, won the prestigious Grimme-Preis in the “Children & Youth” category. Her favorite genres include Mystery / Thriller, Period Drama and Romantic Sci-Fi.
